Get it the fuck together, Bri!

Mentally I chastise myself while splashing cold water on my face to cool me down. The last ninety minutes of the class had been pure torture. Cain acted sweet and friendly, and I completely embarrassed myself. In fact, I can only imagine he is back there now, trying to get the name of a different tutor.

Maybe it’s for the best.

Stress is all I have felt since getting ready to come to class today. I picked my outfit specifically to try and distract him. In the end, it only made me self-conscious and cold, if I'm being honest.

This semester is supposed to be me coasting to completing my degree. I’ve taken fewer classes, dropped from working five days a week to three or four, and instead of feeling more at ease, I said yes to stupid McSteamy on his too-good-to-be-true deal, which is only bringing me stress and anxiety. How can I go out there and face him for the next two hours of tutoring?

Maybe I can cancel?

Think of the money… you can do this. You need this money. Even if we only make it a week. Five grand will be more than two months working at the call center.

Staring back at my reflection, I mentally give myself a pep talk. If I can think of it one week at a time, maybe I can make this thing work. After a quick fix to my face and hair, and a gentle tug on my outfit, I leave the bathroom. As I turn down the hall, I pull my phone out of my pocket, nearly dropping my purse in the process, wondering if we are meeting in the library or somewhere else when a voice sounds behind me.

“Running away from me already?” he asks, a hint of flirtation laced in his words as he grabs my bag from my shoulder like it weighs nothing and throws it across his.

“No, I was just about to text you on the location for us to study since I have to stop by the quad and grab something to eat before we begin,” I answer, trying not to sound out of breath due to his proximity.

“I have a better idea. Let’s take our studying on the road today. I know an excellent Mexican place just off campus, two birds, one stone, and all that. Don’t worry, as it's a working lunch; it is on me, of course,” he finishes with a big smile.

“I think staying on campus will be better for you to focus on the content,” I say hesitantly as my stomach betrays me with a large growl.

I knew I shouldn’t have skipped breakfast today.

“Your stomach and I disagree with you. Come on, we have to work out the schedule today anyway, and maybe we can try to get to know each other so you, what was it you said earlier,” he looks at me with unabashed heat in his stare, “So you know who you are getting into bed with.
